AUDITIONS FOR MAMMA MIA!

THE ABBA MUSICAL

Sunday, September 16 and Monday, September 17 at 6:00 pm

Scroll down for details.

Auditions for “Mamma Mia!” are scheduled for Sunday, September 16 and Monday, September 17 at 6:00 pm. The production will be directed by Donna Smith Downie, with Matthew White serving as Musical Director and Lori George choreographing the musical numbers. All roles are available for casting.

“Mamma Mia!” made its debut in London in 1999, where it is still currently running. A Broadway production opened two years later, and ran for fourteen years, making it one of the ten longest-running shows in Broadway history. A film version, released in 2008 and starring Meryl Streep, became one of the highest-grossing films of its year, and its cinematic sequel is currently playing in theaters.

The musical’s score is made up entirely of the hit songs of ABBA, the Swedish pop group who came to radio prominence in the 1970s. Set on a picturesque Greek island, the show tells the story of a young woman's search for her birth father; on the eve of her wedding, she summons three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. “Mamma Mia!” requires a large cast, is rich in comedy, and features dynamic dance numbers, set to infectious ABBA tunes such as “Dancing Queen,” “Super Trouper,” “Waterloo” and the title song.

All auditioners are asked to come at 6 pm on either night. Please bring sheet music – 70s or 80s pop song (keeping the style of ABBA in mind) would be appropriate. (Downloadable sheet music is available for purchase online at such websites as musicnotes.com and sheetmusicdirect.com.) Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for dancing. Those auditioning for character roles will be asked to read from the script. If you are auditioning for a character other than your own age, please be prepared to simulate the age of that character in your reading. Children ages 12 and up are welcome to audition, but a limited number will be cast.
